Linear or audio pots
Nettet30. sep. 2009 · Both were CTS pots bought under the AllParts logo from GC. Neither is marked A or B, A being audio/log B being linear. WTF? Edit: The answer from Kinman: Also be aware that 1Meg ohm pots (and to a lesser degree 500K) have an unpleasant ramp-up characteristic that a lot of high-gain players won't like. Nettet19. mar. 2024 · Jun 13, 2013. Posts. 8,561. Location. Initech, Inc. I prefer the log for the volume and the linear for the tone. The log gives you more of an even increase in volume across the the sweep, instead of gradually increasing to about 60-70%, then "jumping" to full, because of the way the ear perceives volume.

Nettet23. nov. 2011 · But I got fed up (with standard Fender audio pots) with turning my volume control down to 8 & finding that I lost half my volume. Now, with a linear volume pot, I need to turn down to 5 or 6 to reduce the noise my guitar makes by an equivalent amount. So I have more subtlety & control with my linear pot. If you try both, let us know how … NettetFor example, rotating the potentiometer to 50% will cause the pot to function at 50% of the maximum resistance. Linear tapers can be good for adjusting lighting through light dimmers or for motion control. Non-linear tapers are often referred to as a logarithmic or audio taper. These are most commonly used for audio volume control.
Nettet11. okt. 2024 · Audio taper is designed for use in audio applications. It has a shallower slope than linear taper, which means that it doesn’t change resistance as quickly. The graph below shows relationship between the variable resistance and the contact position for the three most commonly used tapers: linear, logarithmic (audio), and inverse logarithmic. The simple linear taper is the most common form. The response of the linear taper is linear between 5 and 95% of the contact range of motion.
